That having been said, I enjoy reading Matheson, but he’s kinda like bingeing on junk food — strictly empty calories. Richard Matheson wrote some of the most iconic Twilight Zone episodes, so when I saw this short story collection at the library, I figured it had to be great. I’m yet to read a novel by Richard Matheson, but his short stories continue to impress me.
Matheson also wrote the screenplay for Fanatic US title: She also wants a future. For the most part, this was a really good collection of short stories.
But a couple of these would make awesome short movies.
We see through the eyes of the con-artist how horrible and manipulative he is, which gives an excellent chill knowing that people like that are out there. Considering how short it is only 3 or 4 pagesthere’s a lot in there.

Loved “The Clothes Make the Man” — very clever right up to the end. Mute is one of my favorite Twilight Zone episodes and the story is rich and the language is gorgeous! You would hope everyone would be the kind, non-greedy person that wouldn’t even dream of pushing that button.
It’s a shame it’s not more well known, I think it would really resonate with people today.
