The only time the book really hints about this side of poker is when they mention the Greg Hogan bank robbery. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. There’s nothing particularly gripping about the whole thing except the anticipation of some explosive failure on the part of our protagonists as you either cheer for their success or their comeuppance.
They also like to yell “Holla! Another upside of this dedication to screen names is that “durrrr” is consistently spelled right throughout the entire book, which is apparently not standard among poker publications. One thing about this book that is kind of weird is that all the online players are referred to by their screennames instead of their real names, throughout the entire thing.
Mildly entertaining account of a group of extremely successful poker players. There were several times when I wanted to reach through the pages and shake Robl. The book is about their lives as they found out that they could win a lot of money playing Texas Hold’em on the various online poker web ti. When we started digging around for an angle into the story, vaguely defined as “those damned Internet kids,” Storms suggested Andrew Robl, who he’d interviewed earlier for a magazine hallas.

This is more of a guy’s book, there is a lot of drinking, going to strip clubs, and way over the top party descriptions, that may be offensive to many people. But I still give it 3. Many have fallen, but Dwan and Robl remain. That’s a small complaint, though, and overall the book is excellent. Always enjoyable to read about degenerates engaging in debauchery and these guys were able to do it in excess, also get a glimpse into life now that they have grown up.

It was five questions for a professional player and traditionally we had done it with live tournament pros. I’m not suggesting poker is entirely a game hplla luck — it certainly contains an element of skill.
I do use a computer, have played some computer games, and have been on a few forums and discussion boards, so all of the concepts in this book feel quite real and possible.
Tom Dwan may have been my favorite person in the book, probably because he came off the least bro-y and the most like a space alien.
The stuff about the transition from online to live poker and the generational warfare between the storied old guard and the “these Internet kids! English Choose a language for shopping. They soared, they crashed, and some of them survived to soar again.

But for all its flaws, I loved the book, read it twice… and not just because there is a whole chapter 18 about my own exploits with The Crew.
A group of teenage college dropouts, united by social media, who bluffed their way to the top of the game. I highly recommend this book for any poker player or poker fan. She’s actually going to do it. And money is how you keep score, so fancy cars and bar tabs are part of the story. The book provides us with a view of a subculture we’d normally not get to see and paints an intimate enough portrait to keep the reader engaged.
Yet, the authors decide to devote the first several chapters to Irieguy and his journey into online poker.
